Thayer Academy Faculty and Staff Certified in HeartSaver CPR and AED Training
When it comes to saving lives, preparation makes all the difference. Recently, ACLS Academy partnered with Thayer Academy in Braintree to conduct a HeartSaver CPR and AED training course, certifying 100 faculty and staff members in essential lifesaving skills. This collaboration highlights both ACLS Academy’s commitment to community health and Thayer’s dedication to preparing its students and staff to thrive in every aspect of life.
What CPR and AED Training Entails
The HeartSaver CPR and AED course provides participants with the skills and confidence to recognize cardiac arrest, perform high-quality CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). Training includes:
Hands-on practice: Learning proper chest compression depth and rate, rescue breathing, and team-based CPR.
AED instruction: Understanding when and how to safely use an AED to restore a normal heart rhythm.
Emergency response skills: Recognizing the signs of cardiac arrest, calling for help, and coordinating a response until EMS arrives.
This training is not just about memorizing steps; it is about practicing until skills become second nature. When seconds matter, confidence and preparation save lives.
Empowering Faculty and Staff to Respond to Cardiac Emergencies
By certifying 100 members of the Thayer Academy faculty and staff, ACLS Academy has equipped the community with a powerful safety net. In the event of a cardiac emergency, staff members can now:
Respond quickly and effectively before professional responders arrive.
Increase the odds of survival for a student, colleague, or visitor.
Create a safer learning environment where everyone knows trained help is close at hand.
Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere—including schools. Having a trained community of responders means that Thayer Academy is prepared for the unexpected.
Thayer Academy’s Commitment to Health and Wellness
This initiative is a natural extension of Thayer Academy’s Health and Wellness curriculum, which emphasizes lifelong skills for safe, healthy, and active living. At Thayer, health and wellness are considered essential to the student experience, with courses designed to build awareness, responsibility, and resilience.
One highlight of the program is the senior CPR/AED and First Aid requirement. Seniors complete an online learning course in Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and Basic First Aid. To earn certification, they must demonstrate their skills in person with a Thayer instructor. Once complete, they receive a two-year certification, preparing them to carry these critical skills into adulthood.
Students who already hold current certification are exempt, ensuring the focus remains on practical readiness rather than redundancy. By graduation, every Thayer student has had the opportunity to learn how to respond in a medical emergency—an investment in life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
The Nation of Lifesavers Initiative
The training at Thayer also connects with a larger national movement. In 2024, the American Heart Association (AHA), in partnership with the NFL, launched the Nation of Lifesavers initiative, designed to empower everyday Americans with CPR knowledge. Now in 2025, Major League Baseball is stepping up to the plate, expanding the reach of this lifesaving campaign.
The goal is simple but profound: to create a nation where anyone, anywhere, has the confidence and skills to act in a cardiac emergency. By teaching CPR in schools, training faculty and staff, and engaging local communities, we move closer to making that vision a reality. ACLS Academy’s Ongoing Community Impact
At ACLS Academy, we believe that CPR training should not be limited to healthcare professionals. Our mission includes engaging with schools, workplaces, and community organizations to provide accessible, high-quality instruction that empowers people to act.
Our partnership with Thayer Academy is one of many initiatives where we’ve worked to strengthen community safety. Each training session creates ripples of impact; every individual trained has the potential to save a life, and every organization that invests in training contributes to a culture of preparedness.
As the Nation of Lifesavers movement grows, ACLS Academy is proud to be part of that momentum. By bringing training to local institutions, we ensure that lifesaving knowledge isn’t just a national goal—it’s a community reality.
